How are we doing as a parish? Can you envision what our parish will look like in 10 years? We all live and breathe in a culture of rugged individualism. We solve our own problems. We pull ourselves up by the bootstraps. So, it’s no wonder we think of prayer and our spiritual lives in an individualist way, as something just between me and God. But Bishop Barron tells us this overlooks what the New Testament authors took for granted—namely, that Christians exist not for themselves but for the world. Jesus compared his followers to salt, which is designed to preserve and enhance something other than itself, and to light, whose purpose is to be set on a stand in order to illuminate what is around it. Pope St. Paul VI articulated the same truth as follows: the Church doesn’t have a mission; the Church is a mission. And one of the primary ways our church engages in mission is through the OCIA (Order of Christian Initiation of Adults).OCIA currently has several Seekers or Inquirers meeting weekly. We hope to celebrate the Rite of Acceptance on Sunday, November 10th! You are living out your call to be the church mission as you invite, accompany and pray for these Seekers along their faith journey!
